Our Review of the Suunto Running Pack

By combining the Suunto t3, t3c, or t6c training watch with the Foot POD in one valuable package, the Suunto Running Pack provides committed runners with heart rate and physiological data, as well as training effect, accurate speed, and distance information. The Suunto Foot POD attaches to the laces of your shoes, and communicates with your Suunto training wrist top computer via a wireless connection to determine and record your running speed and distance traveled. This compact device is light as a feather and won't even be noticeable while you go for your run.

The Running Pack includes:

  • Your choice of a t3, t3c, or t6c wrist top training computer
  • Foot POD
  • Comfort Belt heart rate belt (only with the "c" Suunto watch models - standard models include the standard Suunto Heart Rate Belt)
  • t3 Running Pack

great for training & racing

I am an adventure racer. The T3 & foot pod read accurate distances right out of the box. Without even having to calibrate it, it was dead on. It's been an extremely helpful training tool for pace. Most impressive, I recently used it in a race for the first time. After running 1 mile we had to swim across a river. It did not calculate while in the river, however, once I hit the bank & started running again it picked right up without missing a beat. We later swam another river with the same results. The only downside is my concern of possibly losing the foot pod through muddy terrain. I may throw a zip tie over it for the next race or muddy trail run. OVERALL--I highly recommend it (unless you are my competition--lol)

Initial Review

Due to all the reviews mentioning how easy it was to scratch the display, I only use my Suunto t3 for working out. The user's guide shows basic information, but lacks detailed guidance that only can be figured out by playing with it. The initial setup of personal information and exercise setting are straight forward and after awhile you learn real quick how to work through the different menus. I especially enjoy the real-time training effect the watch displays. I have a tendency of overtraining, and this keeps me within a set target. My only suggestion for improvement is to create different training modes; running and biking. Your heart rate zones vary drastically between the two, and being able to change personal settings will give you more flexibility and accurate training results. I currently don't have access to a track or previous measured distance, and went off a tread mill for calibrating the FOOT POD. So, I'm in question about the accuracy until I'm able to get to a track. Once again, I found the initial setup to be straight forward and real easy to use. Since the FOOT POD doesn't use a GPS you don't have to worry about loosing signal when training, which can be a problem depending on the weather and various other conditions. I love the SUUNTO line and plan on getting a PC POD in a couple of months for easier tracking of training results. Overall, a great product and would recommend it to anyone of my friends. The only reason I'm not giving the watch five stars is i've only been using it for about a month.
