Ordering my 3rd one

Overall good. Bezel numbers fade rapidly, this one 4 years old, the buttons jammed and won't reset time anymore. Annoying to have it change from time fxn from buttons hitting when I bend my wrist, On the other hand I like the altitude. It doesn't reset fast enough to be of use in hang gliding but fun for orientation. It's easy to see and read. Backlight works good. Nice and light. I am getting ready to order another. I have gone through a dozen straps. The plastic is the only one that has lasted for me. Replace batteries about once a year. (about $15 per pop)

Solider and a watch

I really enjoy this watch. The features are solid and once I got over the initial learning curve I felt comfortable with all the features. I want to second the volume level on the alarm, it is low enough to be muffled and in a noisy tent filled with soldiers gets droned out. Also the lack of a dual time really is a drain, but I suppose I should just man up and admit I'm bad at math instead of bad mouthing the manufacturer. All in all compass and barometer solider performer, although I see the weather prediction aspect working much better in a fixed location

Awesome!

My wife got me X-Lander, Military edition for Valentine's, which was a huge surprise. I had my eye on the Suunto Core but heard some bad things; more so, I even had a chance to see one...I am so glad my wife got me this watch. The X-Lander is incredible. The backlight is a little dim, which is the only little flaw with the watch. Other than that, the watch is awesome! Before aything, read the user guide, which is reader friendly. The barometer works well. The numbers are clear and visible. The bezel is able to move in both clock and counter-clockwise. Make sure to calibrate the compass before hiking. Have not utilized the altimeter but I will do so, especially living in Austin... Suunto made a great product in the X-Lander. I would recommend this watch to anyone looking for tough, rugged, and sporty watch! Thanks Suunto!

Customer Service

Reviewer: and old Scout , Chi-town, IL Date: February 07, 2008
After an exhausting research process, finally decided to an optimal watch. From talking to my old military buddies Suunto was the way to go. What became taxing was, which one to choose. With the help of reviews and the staff from suuntowatches we decided to go with X-Lander military edition, can't really write a review on the watch itself b/c haven't received it, however the staff was unbelievably helpful and patient. Great job and thanks again for all your help. I looking forward to going back to the sand box feeling a little better with my new toy. Alex

Big boy

Reviewer: Anonymous , Nashville, TN Date: February 02, 2008
Beware, if you've never owned a watch like this, it is a BIG watch. It took some getting used to, and my wife was not a fan of it at first, but it has grown on me, and now I wouldn't trade it. It looks good both on the trail and in the office (better than the casios for sure). Plus, it weighs next to nothing, thanks to the aluminum case. Techy stuff is fun, and I enjoy informing hiking mates just how far an ascent we've made, or quickly checking the barometic history in the corner to predict weather. Recalibrate often, use google earth to do so.

I bought the X-Lander because I have used Suunto compasses & diving computers for many years & know they are 100% reliable precision instruments. This watch hasn't disappointed, it was easy to set up, it looks great, it has a good clear read out on all functions & is tough. One niggle: I wish the backlight was a tad brighter - then I would have been happy to give this beauty 5 stars.

Excellent

The X-Lander is a superb instrument, excelling at everything it is designed to do. I was a bit hesitant as I subject my watches to substantial abuse, but it has fared well and continues to perform superbly. A fine instrument.
