Iraq and missing my Vector

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Iraq Date: November 09, 2009
Bought my Vector before deployment, used it constantly. A great tool for any soldier. The only complaint is the bezel and face became scratched even before I got into the country. Still my favorite watch thus far. Unfortunantly someone else decided they needed it more than myself.

warrant info

5
Reviewer: Michael Worley , Dalton, Ga Date: October 30, 2009
Just to clarify the scary information about filling out the warranty card when purchasing your Vector. Don't sweat it! I recently had some problems with the lettering wearing off of my compass bezel and Suunto labels smearing because of an application of sun screen (by the way dont apply sunscreen or bug spray while wearing your watch!). I also encountered a problem with water resistance with condensation collecting underneath the face. I sent the watch back and with a decription of my problems and a few weeks later absolutely no questions asked Suunto sent me an entirely new watch. The fuctions are unbelieveably accurate for a wrist device, as long as set to current TOPO settings. I am just very appreciative of the fact that there is still a company out there that will stand by their product the way that Suunto does. The Vector is a must have for any outdoor enthusiast.

5 years

I have owned a Vector for over five years. I am a SSG in the Army. I have a special job. I have conducted numerous missions with the Vector on my wrist. The watch is so beaten and worn. The writing is gone, and the lens is in poor condition. I do not need another Vector. The Vector has never failed me. I have never had to think twice about the accuracy of the watch. Its always there. Thats one less worry! This is one peice of equipment I can count on. It's one of the few things that I have not had to replace. I just WANT a new one, I do not NEED a new one. Thank you Sunnto.

Beyond Disapointed

Reviewer: Anonymous , Huntington Beach Date: October 27, 2009
I received my Suunto watch along with 14 other agents as issued equipment after making the BORSTAR; the U.S. Border Patrol's search trauma and rescue team. I was initially really impressed with the Vector and it's many functions, but then it fogged up and stopped working-less than a year after I received it. I sent it back to Suunto and they sent me a new one no questions asked. I was impressed. Then this watch fogged up and stopped working after only 6 weeks, and I was sitting in FLETC Georgia in a classroom the entire time, I never even went in the field with it. So I sent the watch back to Suunto and once again they sent me a new watch, and guess what this one has once again fogged up and stopped working. So I sent it to back to Suunto a third time, but they are now telling me the warranty is up and will not repair it. I would not purchase this watch or any other item from Suunto. And guess what I am now at a new agency and I will be purchasing watches for 40 agents this year and guess what they won't be Suuntos.

Comments from The Staff:

Thank you so much for your review. I?m SO sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your Suunto Vector. I'm surprised to hear this happened to you three times, as most of our customers have had the watch for numerous years with no issues. As many of our other reviewers state, they have had the watch through numerous military tours and never had a problem. However, based off of your feedback we will be contacting the manufacturer to make sure that they are aware of this issue, and if it is an existing problem that it can hopefully be corrected on the manufacturing end.

Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns you may have and thanks again for the feedback!

Thanks,
Melissa T.

Old Vector

4
Reviewer: Frank , Chepachet, RI Date: October 06, 2009
I've had my Vector since Dec. 1998. It's been on several backpacking adventures to Philmont as well as using out on my boat as a back-up compass. Overall it has been a reliable watch. The time keeping is excellent and keep close to the time on my satellite clock from work with only a slight drift after 4 months. A couple of issues I have with it now is that the compass can no longer be calibrated and is not accurate. The Altimeter is stuck at 9070 feet and does not adjust or change. It's time to get a new one since some of the plastic bezel is also cracking from old age. I'll get another one!

Do it...

Hands down a great watch. My Suunto has survived 8+ years, 2 tours, a couple of unfortunate brawls, hunts, hikes, bikes, shallow dives and swimms, but most impressively it has survived 2 wives; both of which were tougher on the watch than everything else combined. Finally, a wife proof watch! My Suunto Vector has seen it all and it has the scars to prove it. After replacing the battery 2x, I've come to realize that I use the functions too much especially the light. Nevertheless, a tough watch. You buy it, you use it, you'll love it.

The BEST WATCH EVER

5
Reviewer: Steve Harrington (USMC Ret.) , Round Rock, Tx Date: September 22, 2009
I bought my Suunto Vector 10 years ago and it has been through 2 tours in Iraq, 6 Elk hunts up the Rocky Mountains (11,000 ft+) and several triathlons. It is without question the best watch I have ever owned. I have always been able to get any little part or battery that I needed with their excellent support even though my watch is 10 years old. If you plan on putting your watch to the test...these watches will absolutely hold up to the challenge.

Great watch, but...

Reviewer: SherryB , Victoria BC Date: August 04, 2009
Overall, I have found the Vector to be a reliable, rugged watch. When used correctly, the altimeter and compass work accurately and as advertised, and the watch has been a consistent and reliable performer. My main complaints (and they're fairly serious ones for me) are that the EL backlight is so weak -even on a fresh cell- that the display is readable only in the pitch dark with dark-adapted eyes. And the alarm is so weak, that is is utterly useless as a wakeup alarm in the morning, and unless I'm listening VERY carefully, I will miss the alarm in every other mode (i.e. countdown timer) as well. Otherwise, a great watch. This is my second Vector!

I purchased my watch when it first came out, and I'm still getting comments on it! What a great watch... Never had an issue... Thanks and looking forward to buying a new one in 2010!
