My Two Cents.

Reviewer: J , Buenos Aires, Argentina Date: September 05, 2009
I've had the watch (X6 HRT version) for about three-months and it has been very good. It is the perfect watch for me (despite a couple of negative points) -- that is, rugged enough for my outdoor adventures and work-related activities, yet fancy enough not to look out of place when I have to attend a cocktail. I would describe the watch as a muscle car hidden inside the exterior of a luxury sedan. Positives: has the ABCs (like most all Suunto watches); heart-rate feature (seemed to be fairly accurate for me, some reviews state that it reads a little high); very easy/intuitive menu navigation (so easy that I haven't referenced the guide since day one); PC down-loadable; stylish; etc. etc. Negatives: the software seems very basic, really too basic for my needs (I understand that Polar is far superior in this area -- I may look into the Polar software conversion program); had a very difficult time getting the right usb-serial adapter for my Vista 64-bit system (the cable sold by Suunto did not work and tech support mentioned that they have no drivers to make it work; I ended up purchasing a $9.99 adapter...that worked great); price (but you get what you pay for -- look at the other models if this of a major concern). Conclusion: I am very happy that I purchased the watch and would gladly recommend it to a friend.

Good watch - bad strap!

Reviewer: Roch Horton , Salt Lake City, UT Date: March 26, 2009
I have the X6HRT. The watch has been most impressive, but.. I am going on my 3rd strap in less than 2 years. It's a little scary having the band break unexpectedly and possibly seeing a $1000 watch sink to the bottom of the river, or into deep snow. I've been lucky so far. Unfortunately it's the ti link band which requires sending back for replacement. I suggest anyone that loves their X6HRT as much as I do, replace the link band with the standard polymer band.It may save you losing your nice watch!

Great Dependable Watch

Reviewer: Dalke , Dublin, CA Date: February 16, 2009
I currently own all three Suunto X6HR models and have never had a problem with any of them. My favorite is the stainless steel Suunto X6HRM. They are all durable and have never missed a beat. The battery seems to last a long time. There is a reason why Suunto has made the X6HR for such a long time. Sure the bands eventuallly wear out. Opt for the non link band on the X6HRM and X6HRT models which is less expensive than the metal/rubber link type band. Battery replacemant is easy and quick. The composite X6 model is light and both the stainless and titanium models weigh about the same (titanium model is just a little lighter than the stainless model). Since these X6HR's are made in Finland, the build quality is excellent. I also like the light brown display of the X6HRM and X6HRT which is easier to see than the standard green X6 display. Overall, a great looking dependable watch that functions well.

Good experience with X6HR

Reviewer: J.O. , San Diego, CA Date: February 12, 2009
Bought my X6 HR... I initially had issue as unit was DOA...replaced immediately. These are technical units, so having a good retailer is helpful. I use primarily to track HR and Altitude when cycling and running for 3-5 hrs/wk. But get a kick out of Altitude when skiing. Menu system is fine given form factor, and my battery experience to date is two or three changes per year. I've replaced chestband b/c of water infiltration from swimming in triathlon. I like the Suunto Activity Manager for post analysis, and tracking progress. Activity Manager is good, not great - it could use more flexibility and a cross series comparison feature. I wish this unit integrated with GPS for speed data, and I wish I could figure out how to transfer old Suunto log files from prior computer....

Suunto X6 HR Bad band

Reviewer: Anonymous , Canton, Ga Date: January 12, 2009
I love the Suunto watches, but I have the same issues with any of the Titanium or steel bands. When the elastomer wears out and breaks, you can not just order a new elastomer band that will except the old hardware. They want you to order a totally new band. I have made a call to both Suunto Watches (who told me that they did not sell just the replacement elastomer band for titanium or steal bands) and a call to the manufacturer (who has not returned my call by e-mail). I'm to the point of just replacing the titanium band with the standard elastomer band, so I would strongly recommend not spending the extra money when you make your first purchase on upgrading the bands.

Has it's problems, but is the best

Reviewer: Vin , Cornwall, UK Date: November 26, 2008
I've had my back plastic x6hr for over 2 years now, and I do love some of the things it tells me. I use it for mountaineering and for cycle racing / training. It's great to see rate of ascent both when working out "how long to the top?", and "how fit am I?". The problems have been with the watch randomly deciding that for an occasional few days it thinks I must be at over 8000metres. It's also had fits of resetting itself when it didn't like a new battery I got fitted (and it eats batteries by the way!). I've also had to buy a new watch strap every 6 months. Now I've got a problem with the HR chest strap - it's fallen apart (made of the same stuff as the watch strap I think). So like a previous reviewer, I say it's brilliant and I hate being without it - but I AM often without it and it's expensive to run.

great watch

The Suunto X6 HRM delivers what it promises. I am currently on deployment in Afghanistan and it works extremely well. Improvements can be obtained in 2 areas. The alarm sounds should be much stronger as right now the watch has to be really close to one's ear to be effective and if any way possible be adaptable to a Foot POD.

Fantastic

I've had my X6HR for about 2-1/2 years. I'm an offshore surveyor and this watch is terrific for work and leisure. It's a great tool for work. I beat the daylights out of it. It's always getting knocked, wet, bashed against something and it still works beautifully.

I love my X6HRM

I'm suprised reading the all of the problems people have had. This watch has been awesome. I was travelling with a dress watch for work and a HRM for the gym, but this does it all. It is nice enough for work and durable enough for all my other activities. The band has been great. I just ordered my first replacement and the watch is 2 or 3 years old (it has been so trouble free I forgot when I bought it.) I only take it off for sleeping and airport security. After lots of abuse and even a few mountain bike crashes, I don't even have scratches in the crystal. The bezel, however, is starting to show some "character marks." Everything seems to work right. It even held HR data in the memory while I changed the battery.
