I love my Lumi

4
Reviewer: Jenny Lynn , Flagstaff, AZ Date: May 17, 2009
I have had my Lumi for about 4 months now and I love it! At first I was a little overwhelmed by all the features but with the help of the guide I was able to figure them out in no time. If you are considering getting a Lumi I would suggest getting the Florette Lumi because the wrist band is more durable than the orange one and you should get it in the pack. The only complaint I have with this watch is the temperature feature because your body temperature makes the reading off. That is why it is nice to get the pack so you can hang it around your neck or clip it to a carabiner.

Timepiece is great, strap is ?.

Reviewer: Liz , Santa Rosa, CA Date: January 25, 2009
This is an elegant, well designed watch. However, FORM must FOLLOW FUNCTION. The strap is really sleek but it's fragile. Mine has broken twice which makes this watch completely useless outdoors (as a wristwatch) as I can't trust it to withstand anything. The replacement straps are too expensive.

PLEASE fix the bands...

2
Reviewer: Jarrett , Atlanta, GA Date: December 03, 2008
Since receiving my Suunto Lumi as a Christmas present (2008), I've had nothing but problems. The band it came with was a terrible color so I bought a new band (black with green). The band failed within 3 months as the rubber came away from the metal part that attaches the band to the watch. I have returned the band twice for replacement under warranty and have just had my third one fail, in the exact same way, in less than a month. What is it going to take for Suunto to admit the band design is faulty and fix it???...Meanwhile, I've had to replace the battery twice inside of 12 months despite limited use of the back light and other battery draining features. Watch looks amazing, but high price and quality issues make it a hassle. Regarding features, the watch is loaded with them but lacks some of the more useful and common functions. Why wouldn't Suunto have configured the alarm so that it can be set for weekdays only? Love the storm alarm, but the accuracy of it is pretty bad. The face seems to be very susceptible to scratching and cannot be polished.

Suunto Lumi - Great watch, terrible band

3
Reviewer: Anonymous , Colton, CA Date: November 16, 2008
Love the Suunto Lumi watch...great features and large display. However, the band was not designed to withstand daily wear. Mine lasted about six months before it started peeling away from the watch face, and I didn't even do anything strenuous with it, just wore it to work and camping a couple of times. Why make such a functional watch with a band that can't handle the range of activities this watch is useful for? VERY disappointed with the quality of the band (and it's expensive to get a replacement!)

High cool factor but a really bad band and worthless thermometer

2
Reviewer: kristin , Denver, CO Date: September 08, 2008
The watch has a high cool factor however.....the band is horrible and largely detracts from the watch's functionality. I just climbed a 14,000 peak and could not strap it to the outside of my coat on my wrist since the strap has a fixed size. The thermometer is worthless. Mine consistently reads 87 deg F while on my wrist and drops only slighty if I take it off for 10 minutes, even when the temperature is in the 30s. I understand I am supposed to take off the watch to get the temp, but I should not have to wait an hour for it to find the correct temperature. Other watch functions are great, the watch is pretty but not functional in a sporty way. Without better strap options, especially for petite wrists, this watch will end up living on my dresser. The metal part of the rubber band prevents downsizing for a petite wrist. The tan strap also looks filthy after two days of camping and doesn't wash clean. I would be much happier with a $10 velcro strap and a thermometer that works.

Still love this watch

Reviewer: Anonymous , Arundel, Me Date: September 05, 2008
Now that I have owned the Suunto Lumi watch for one year, I wanted to do another review of my Lumi. The Lumi florette is what I presently have. This is the third watch I have received since purchasing mine last September. My other two watches had problems with batteries and the watch not functioning properly. Suunto stood by their product and issed me a replacement watch both times. This watch, appears to be working just fine. I am very pleased with Suunto's customer service. The Lumi is my 4th suunto watch and my favorite. I work in the Maine woods for a living so I use my watch and many of the features everyday. The compass, barometer and altimeter continue to be accurate. The sunrise/sunset time is a valuable tool to have also. The watch is very easy to use much easier than my other watches. My only suggestion would be to display the date and seconds on the watch face at the same time. I use both functions alot and really dislike the fact that you have to choose one or the other to display. It would also be very useful if the weather trend indicator were displayed on the watch face in time mode. As far as the band goes, mine has been holding up. I went with the black florette because my first watch had the terra band. The band got so dirty looking I could not clean it up. So I got the black band. The watch face is full of scratches. It did not hold up to working in thick brush, blackberry bushes and forest fires. I sure hope they make improvements for the next generation Lumi. If they do, I'll buy another one. One more thing. The watch band replacements should really be able to be purchased individually. What about adding the original three bands in the choices?

Suunto Lumi Florette - great watch

5
Reviewer: Erika , Kalamazoo, MI Date: August 14, 2008
I recently got the Suunto Lumi Florette watch and a really really like it...Perfect design and a lot of useful features that I put to test last week in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Thermometer works perfectly (now I know that it was 45 F in the tent at night :). Altimeter was pretty close to what was given in the trail guides and maps. Very cool to record your hike and review afterwards. We did not have any rain :) so I don't know about the storm alarm. As to the size, I think that it is just right for what it can do and I was even told that it looks "sooooooo cute". I also like the band, some people complain, but I found it very good and the adjustment is not too complicated when you follow instructions. My boyfriend cut the band a bit bigger on purpose and then cut it smaller and smaller until the best fit. I think it was a great idea to make this watch the way it is and I would definitely recommend it for adventure as well as the office...universal watch :)

A man's watch as well?

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Missoula, MT Date: July 25, 2008
I've wanted an ABC watch for a long time, but most were too big to wear everyday. I'm male, 6'3" (5.5" wrists), and really liked the styling and design of this watch (which resembles my Suunto T4) but the bands were all far too ... unmanly. Anyway, I purchased the Sportif model and painted the outside of the band black (with thin and carefully applied coats of ColorMatch car interior spraypaint), and now it looks pretty good, sort of 1950s Art Deco-ish or something. I wish the weather trend indicator would display in the time mode, the "ticking" seconds display did not timeout, and I don't see a way to view a baro log, only an alti one. I think Suunto would sell a ton more of these if they just released a gender-neutral version of the Sportif model with a black band.

Sleek design, but too big

3
Reviewer: Amy , Williamsburg, VA Date: July 10, 2008
I LOVE the features and the design of this watch, I just wish it were more petite and more rugged. I have a very slender wrist and this watch face is the same diameter as my wrist. I understand this is one of the most petite watches Suunto carries but I'd like to see a smaller one. I also wish the face were highly scratch resistant... the watch has functionality for outdoorsy activities so it should be designed to withstand that. I would love more strap options such as a hook-and-loop (velcro) option...I tried to test out the "storm alarm" and had that feature enabled and had the watch in barometer mode, but the alarm did not go off before or during a thunderstorm. Note: there is a way to display seconds count, contrary to what a previous reviewer said.
