Our Review of the Suunto Replacement Strap - Observer

Available in Elastomer, Stainless Steel, and Titanium. Note: Stainless Steel and Titanium straps are still Elastomer with links on the outside of the strap - only elastomer will be in contact with your wrist.

Note: In addition to the Observer, this band will fit older Suunto SR, TR, G3 and all X6HRM and X6HRT models.

Although it is possible to install this strap youself, it can be quite difficult; we recommend using your local jeweler.

Sad

I am on my fourth band, going into year five of the watch. New band every 12 months, essentially. Substandard quality and quite pathetic. I have about $200 into bands now, will not buy another one - will buy a watch with a better band though.

Great watch, lousy band

Reviewer: Anonymous , El Paso, TX Date: June 07, 2010
It's all true what everyone has said about the band. I had the watch for less than a year in SWA and the band is history.

What's the problem with the bands?

Reviewer: Rob , Hampshire, UK Date: April 23, 2010
I have had an Observer since Xmas 2003 and the original strap is fine - no breaking, no cracking, nothing. My only complaint is that the clasp doesn't hold quite as securely as it used to, and sometimes it will pop open when shaken, e.g. when running or playing the drums. Maybe I'm just lucky - after reading these reviews a few years ago I was expecting to be on my third or fourth strap by now!

THE G6 ELASTOMER BAND FITS OBSERVER!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Blacksburg, VA Date: April 06, 2010
I found out that the G6 elastomer band fits my observer and costs much less! I almost sold my watch for parts after breaking my 3rd $40 band! ...

No more

Great watch lousy band. It seems that the bands only last about 12 months. Don't waste your money on replacing the strap. My Observer is now a pocket watch.

Maintenance

4
Reviewer: Michael McCleary , Honolulu, HI Date: August 09, 2009
Here is one viable solution to the elastomer (rubber) strap problem. Cause and effect analysis has led me to understand that like all rubber components, this one too requires maintenance. In the world of diving, when rubber is consistently exposed to the elements (i.e. sun, salt, hot, cold) the material breaks down and causes what is also known as "dry rot". Additionally, your body leaves traces of dirt and oil on the band. So, what can you do about it? Simple. Conduct weekly maintenance on the strap by: a. wash in a non-ionic soap, b. rinse clean, and c. add a small amount of silicone lubricant inside and out. This method should extend the life of your costly replacement strap. Hope this helps. Yours truly, Navy Diver Chief. Hoo Yah!

Try Duck Tape

1
Reviewer: Anonymous , Dickson, TN Date: July 29, 2009
My original band only lasted a little over a year, crazy for a watch that cost over 300 dollars. The replacement band is too cheaply made for the price. I decided to use black Duck Tape instead!

Offer A Trade-In Policy?

1
Reviewer: Terry Doyle , Seattle, WA Date: July 26, 2009
I've had my Observer for going on 5 years. I'm also going on my 4th band. Insanity. By now I could have purchased a $900 watch with a decent band; that lasts. Sad for you Suunto. With so many unfavorable reviews, why don't you offer an upgrade or a trade-in deal for those of us who really love your watches and want to support you. This is the last time I'll replace the band...
